Why Back to the Future's Ending Is Actually Horrifying [Video]

There's no better time to revisit Back to the Future than in the wake of its 25th anniversary. And when you give the original another look, it's important to keep in mind that its ending is several shades of horrifying. More »

The NASA Countdown Clock Is Gigantic [Image Cache]

If you're a space nerd like me, you probably knew that the iconic countdown clock at the Kennedy Space Center was big. Yesterday—on my first day covering Discovery's Wednesday launch—I learnt it wasn't big. This thing is humongous. More »

Android Quick App: PowerAMP [video]

PowerAMP -- Feature rich media player for Android.

PowerAMP is a very feature-rich music player that leaves me wishing for very little else.  Throughout my testing I could only think of one or two changes or additions I'd like to see, but even if development on PowerAMP ceased today, it'd still be the music player I use every day.

Just a couple weeks ago, Android users were given the opportunity to test out the beta version of Nullsoft's Winamp for Android, and you may remember how much Phil loved it for its awesome WiFi syncing capabilities.  For an app that's still in its infancy, Winamp for Android felt like a very well rounded music player.  I mention Winamp here simply because it's one of the most recent music players to hit the market, and for that reason alone I felt it necessary to touch on a few differences between Winamp and PowerAMP, mostly concering their respective widgets.

Join me after the break as I show off PowerAMP's nicely designed UI and explore its many features.  [App Homepage]

Update:  The version live on the market is slightly newer than the build I used in this video.  The version on the market (1.0 build 204) has even more features.

Xbox 360 Dashboard update is out!

It's out, right on schedule and it's a biggie. The new Fall 2010 Xbox Live Dashboad update is being rolled out right now in preparation for Kinect to hit shelves on November 4th (or November 10th in Europe). The update includes Netflix search, Zune music, an ESPN entertainment hub, and much much more. Since you probably overslept anyway and don't have time to do the update before heading into the coal mines, why not check out our in depth preview of the update from a few weeks ago. Go ahead, don't cost nothin'. Otherwise, Major Nelson has the full breakdown in the link below.

Pick Punch Cuts Plectrums from Credit Cards

The Pick Punch should be a Steetfighter special move, but it is in fact much more mundane, and arguably more useful. Looking a lot like an office stapler, the Pick Punch works like a paper hole-punch, only it is strong enough to cut through old credit cards, and deposits 351-style guitar-picks instead of confetti.

Viewsonic introduces 3DV5 3D pocket camcorder, no glasses required

There's a good chance this 3D bandwagon may never stop rolling, so rather than maintaining that bitter beer face for yet another day, you may as well embrace the next dimension. Viewsonic's newest pocket camcorder just so happens to fit into that segment, as the 3DV5 is a 720p shooter with a 2.4-inch autosterescopic display, not dislike that found on Nintendo's 3DS. According to the company, there's a one-touch function to switch between 2D and 3D recording modes, and once they've logged the latter, they can either plug it directly into a 3D HDTV (via HDMI) or watch it on-screen without any 3D glasses. Users can also throw these up on YouTube's 3D channel if they'd rather tangle with a set of anaglyph spectacles, but you'd probably budget for an SD card -- you know, considering that the 10MB of internal storage space won't exactly hold a masterpiece. Is this guy really worth £150 ($238)? Can you really live another day without the ability to create 3D content?

Gucci's 3D glasses up the ante with $225 fashion tag

Perhaps we were being unfair with Oakley's $150 3D shades -- that company, in fact, just didn't go far enough. Cut to Gucci with "optically correct" Real D frames of its own. No wraparounds, it's all glass forward, and like we said last time, you'll be the absolute most fashionable person in a crowded room full of people decidedly not looking in your direction for the entire duration of the glasses' applicable use. Look for these to hit your local US Gucci boutique -- if you have to ask where, it probably wasn't on your purchase list anyway -- for $225. Your move, Louis Vuitton.
