iPad 2 Rumors

With the new year approaching very soon more and more rumors are beginning to surface regarding the next generation iPad, or iPad 2. Only time will tell what Apple really has planned. Not all of these rumors have been officially verified by Apple, however around March of 2011 it’s expected that a newly redesigned version [...]

The Best Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

Confession: When I was young, I wanted to be a rapper. True story. I listened to so much music, scribbled words in a notebook and pretended that I could relate to gangster lyrics that I convinced myself that I wouldn't be able to do anything else in life but rap. And then, well, I kinda grew up. But in growing up and being responsible and old, I not only ditched my dream of being a rapper, I also lost a lot of my love for music. The iPod I once lovingly held every where I went ended up being tossed in a drawer. The headphones I used to be so proud to dangle from my ears went weeping aside. Hell, I don't even know where they are any more. And now I'm older and I realize how dumb I once was, not for wanting to be a rapper, but for losing my love for music. I should start up again. I need to download some good albums. I need to put some music in my iPhone. And oh crap, I need some headphones. Good thing these Altec Lansing Muzx Series Canal Noise Isolating Earphone are just 7 bucks. Falling back in love with music is going to be cheap! Maybe I still have enough time to be a rapper. -CC More »

NASA and Ad Astra team up to test VASIMR plasma rocket in space

Plasma propulsion may very well be our ticket to visit those little green men on Mars, which is why NASA is becoming besties with Ad Astra, makers of the VASIMR VX-200 plasma rocket. After successful terrestrial testing, the next step is to try out a VF-200 flight model in space -- and a new agreement gives NASA engineers access to VASIMR while letting Ad Astra leverage NASA's spacecraft expertise to get it into orbit. The plasma rocket was assumed to be destined for use on the International Space Station because it requires far less fuel than conventional boosters -- making it better suited than the propellant-hungry thrusters keeping the station in orbit today -- and can take advantage of the ISS's considerable electrical power (250kW) to fully test VASIMR's 200kW output. Plasma rockets produce sustained thrust, as opposed to the quick bursts of its chemical cousin, which makes it the preferred means of propulsion for space travel as well. NASA hasn't fully committed to either use -- but if Marvin and his fellow Red Planet denizens know what's good for them, they'll be watching VASIMR's development with great interest.

YikeBike extender battery backpack keeps you riding in, um, style for six more miles

Okay, so you'll probably still look like a circus bear on a penny-farthing when you hop on the YikeBike, but with the introduction of the new extender battery backpack, you won't have to stop every six miles to juice up. You heard right, this otherwise inconspicuous knapsack is actually packing a second YikeBike battery, which can be hooked up directly to the collapsible bicycle to keep you riding for another six miles -- and if you like riding high on a tiny bike for long distances, it's got room for more than one. So go crazy, pack this thing full of batteries and hit the road, but if your keister starts smartin', don't say we didn't warn you. You can get your YikeBike juice on for $229 at the source link below.

DropSpace adds real Dropbox sync to Android

dropspace
Dropbox offers a lovely client for Android, but it's lacking true "sync" functionality. You can merely browse your Dropbox, pull files into the device, and manually upload specific files.

DropSpace is a little Android app that makes Dropbox on Android work like Dropbox - that is, you get real folder synchronization in the background.

When you run the app you're prompted for your Dropbox credentials. After logging in to Dropbox, you get to select which device folders you'd like to sync to the cloud. It's a straightforward mapping process: You select a folder on the device, and then specify where in Dropbox it should go.

The interface is rather clunky, at least for now. The biggest annoyance is that you can't edit your "sync list": if you add a folder and then wish to remove it, you must delete the entire list of folders and start over.

In terms of functionality, it works quite well. I tested it with the camera folder, and it was nice to be able to take my photos using the lean default Camera app and have them sync up to the cloud instantly.

Did Your Donation Really Reach Japan? (Probably Not.) [Disasters]

UPDATE: Japan has requested what looks to be limited foreign aid. So far, that call still seems to exclude several nonprofit aid groups (like The American Red Cross). More »

iPad vs iPad 2: RAM performance in Mobile Safari

As you can see from the video above, the iPad 2 using the Apple A5 chip combined with more RAM performs much better than the original iPad when browsing in Mobile Safari. If you load up all nine tabs, you’ll see that the original iPad starts to choke up pretty badly when compared to [...]

Motorola Atrix 4G SBF leaks out

 Atrix 4G 1  Atrix 4G 2  Atrix 4G 3

Looks as though the Motorola Atrix 4G SBF file has leaked out around the Internet. Not exactly something of interest for everyone but if you're ever needing a quick way to get your device back to stock or know how to recover it from being an expensive brick then this is the file you're gonna want to have laying around. Now we just need a magic 4G switch. [Brief Mobile]

Microsoft confirms March 14 release of Internet Explorer 9

IE9Posting on the Internet Explorer blog, Microsoft's Senior Director for Internet Explorer has just confirmed a March 14 release of IE9. It will be released at 9pm Pacific Time to coincide with a Beauty of the Web party being held at SXSW.

It sounds like the party will be pretty wild, with live music from Yeasayer, the Head and the Heart, and Fences. We're told that over 1,500 people will be attending (but unfortunately Download Squad can't make it).

There's a fun video of Ryan Gavin and Dean Hachamovitch, the Corporate Vice President for Internet Explorer, discussing the browser's upcoming release after the break.

If you haven't read our IE9 guide yet, you now only have five days before the final build is released, so hurry up!
